"ADBS 2003 Point System"

In the summer of 2000 the Board of Directors of the American Dutch Bantam Society voted to upgrade our club point-system. Having worked with the implementation of the original ADBS point-system several years ago, it had become obvious that our point-system was in need of upgrading for continued benefit to the membership. Our old point-system as it stood had become a beneficial part of our efforts to encourage our breeders to exhibit and promote our bantams and our breed. We have over the years had many inquiries from much larger and much older clubs who wished to use our point-system as a blueprint to develop their own club point-system. Our advertisements of our club point-system awards in the APA and ABA Yearbooks have certainly caught the attention of many who search through the pages for sources of Dutch bantam. There has certainly been nothing wrong with our older point-system for our club awards, however, as our club grew we recognized that we need some minor changes for renewed involvement and encouragement to our breeders so that we can continue to grow as a club and as individuals as well.

Our primary reasons for making changes relate to the facts that some of our breeders have already reached the pinnacle of our goals and awards offered by our club. Having looked into changes, here are the new point-system regulations.

What has changed and why? The only change that was made is the method that we use for the determination of points awarded to winners at shows. Our previous point-system was determined by a chart of points. Over the years, I have noticed that as some of our larger shows have developed that the point distribution has seemed in need of revision.
(Example: lets say one member wins BB for a show of total Dutch exhibited of 25, he get 20 points for BB win. Another person exhibits and wins BB at a show with 150 Dutch and he gets 40 points for his BB win. It appears to me that the win over 150 birds is not getting a fair award of points for his much larger win. It just seemed a need of revision was in order since we are seeing larger numbers of birds in some of our shows.) Here are the changes:

"Points for Best Of Breed" = formula is: 1 point for each bird in the Dutch class less 1

"Points for Reserve Of Breed" = formula is: number in Dutch class less 1 times 90%

"Points for Best Of Variety" = formula is: 1 point for each bird in the variety, less 1 or 2 points (whichever is larger)

"Points for Res. Of Variety" = formula is: 1 point for each bird in variety less 1 times 90% or 1 point.

What if a bird goes on for higher awards such a SCCL Champion or Reserve, Bantam champion or Reserve or Show Champion or Reserve

Champion = formula is: 1 point for each bird that your bird defeats in that category less 1

Reserve = formula is: 1 point for each bird in variety less 1 times 90%

Note: a bird is given only one calculation for points, (for example, a bird does not get calculation for point for Res. SCCL, plus Best of Breed, plus Best of Variety)> We will use the calculation of points only for highest win and that will be including all of the additional possible calculations.

Do the Awards change? No, the awards remain exavtly the same. Exception being the addition of a new award that will be called the Hall Of Fame Award. We are also adding a "Star" to the Master Exhibitor award as the member accumulates points over a period of years.

MASTER BREEDER AWARD (Bingham Shaffer Award): award will remain as it has been. 200 points earned in any variety over any period of time.

Variety Breeder Award: award will remain as it has been. 100 points earned in any variety over any period of time.

Best Of Variety Award: award will remain as it has been, person who has the highest point totals in a variety for that year's awards.

Exhibitor of the Year Award: award is given to the exhibitor who has accumulated the highest total number of points exhibiting any and all varieties of Dutch for that year. We will also recognize the top 5 exhibitors as recognition of thier yearly awards.

STAR "Master Breeder": for each 500 points that a breeder accumulates exhibiting a variety, he or she will have an additional "STAR" added to their Master Breeder Award

Here is a new award that was not in our previous point-system!

HALL OF FAME AWARD: This will be a new award which will be designed to reconginize a person for their distinguished contributions to both the club and the breed through their work. Here is how the award will be set up:

1. A written nomination must be sent to the club Secretary for this award in the early fall.
2. A ballot of nominations will be presented in our "Christmas Newsletter" edition and all dues paying members may vote on their choice from the nominated persons.
3. A nominee must be a member of the club and their dues must be up-to-date at the time of the nomination letter being sent.
4. Votes on the award must be mailed to the Secretary (or another designee)

5. Results will be finalized following the deadline date of the last day of January for the ballots to be returned to the person doing the counting. (Late ballots will not be counted)
6. Results will be returned to the Secretary as soon as possible after the deadline date so that the preparations can be included in the "Club pages" of the APA and ABA Yearbooks which are usually late in February.
7. A person may be elected to the "Hall Of Fame" only one time ( a person may be nominated for the award any number of times; but may be elected only once).
